Franklin Park Playstead opens.
June 13, 1889
It is the first section of Franklin Park devoted to active recreation and schoolboy sports. All Boston school children are given the day off and provided with free streetcar service so they can attend. According to the Boston Evening Transcript, “When it is all completed we shall have when in Franklin Park a pleasure ground unrivalled in the whole world in beauty.”
